The People’s Review: La Aurora 107

Posted by thepeoplechamp82 on August 3, 2010

Back again with another review for all my peoples!  This week its the La Aurora 107.  I had the opportunity to try the robusto size after winning a contest so I wanted to try another size to see if it will be better so lets give it a go shall we?!  Here are the specs:

Vitola: Belicoso 6 1/4 x 52
Filler: Dominican and Nicaraguan
Binder: Dominican
Wrapper: Ecuadorian
Strength: medium/full

Construction & Pre-light

Inspecting the cigar I find a couple prominent veins on the wrapper but they shouldnt pose any burn issues.  There are no soft spots and the tobacco is evenly packed so there should be no tunneling issues.  There’s a nice cedar and sweet aroma and the cold draw produces a sweet flavor with some bite so lets light it up!!

First third

This cigar starts off with a nice mixture of sweetness with cedar and pepper.  Theres a nice tingle on the retrohale and on the lips.  Very bold and full flavors going on right now.  Also, the finish is nice and creamy like a chocolate milkshake…extremely enjoyable!  The burn is razor sharp and even with a solid greyish ash.  The strength is definitely medium-to-full more on the full side.  Its pairing well with this Antica Napa Valley 06 Cab that im drinking.  Starting to get a nice hint of walnuts mixed in.  BTW I’m sitting here listening to The Bachelorette with a cat staring at me (no I’m not at home just so you know!)  So far, this is a very tasty cigar!  Guillermo Leon has so far made a gem so lets continue on!!

Halfway Point

Moving on to the halfway point and the spice has faded away giving way to the sweetness and walnuts with a cedar finish.  Still working with a solid ash, a great burn and a great color on the ash.  Definitely a full-bodied cigar as im getting a nice nic buzz!  The flavors continue to be simple, bold & enjoyable.  The wine is gellin together with the cigar…are you gellin?!  Great draw producing a lot of smoke.  Really getting a nice creamy flavor mixed in with the finish being a mix of walnuts and cedar.  I am really digging this cigar so lets see how it finishes!!

Finish Line

Basically the finish kinda mirrors the beginning: nice cedar, creamy, nutty flavors with a nice clean and smooth finish.  A touch of spice creeps in on the retrohale; nice sweetness continuing as well.  Construction is very consistent and solid…never had a bad burn or flaky ash.  Good buzz yet the strength does not overpower you.  Overall a very good cigar!!!

VERDICT: EPIC WIN!!! The robusto was good and this size is even better!  I personally cant wait for the corona size to hit the market!!

Thats all for this review…stay tuned for the next review and remember to keep smoking good cigars and let the smoke take you away!!
